The Student Center will have a new home for the start of the 2014-2015 academic year, as the hub of campus activity has relocated to Talbott Hall on the College Quad for the start of the fall semester.

Part of the College’s near term (one-to-five-year) renovation plans, the five-month construction project will provide students and staff with a four-level, 14,500-square-foot space, complete with state-of-the-art upgrades to provide a signature college life experience.

“I am so excited to see our students’ reactions when they visit the new Student Center,” Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Dr. Patrick Lamy said. “The relocation to Talbott Hall will result in the largest concentration of students and cultural, social and educational activities for residents and commuters at the College. Its location on the Quad will result in approximately 500-600 students in the vicinity at any time, making it a vibrant area and the center of campus life.”

Featuring a lounge area complete with a fireplace and communal seating, the building will also house Deacon’s Den Pizza and Grill, a restaurant open to the campus community. Other amenities include a game room complete with video game stations, pool table and pingpong table, and a new Commuter Lounge that includes computer stations and lounge seating for commuter students.

The College’s Wellness Center will also be housed in the new space, in addition to offices for the school’s Center for Student Leadership and Engagement (CSLE), Student Government and Greek Council. The new location will be open on Thursday, Aug. 21, coinciding with the start of the College’s New Student Orientation program.

“We are thrilled to be opening our new Student Center next week,” CSLE director Jennifer Troxell said. “We hope that our students will take advantage of all of the great things our new home has to offer, and that it will become a vibrant space that creates an exciting atmosphere on the Quad. We can’t wait for our students to come back to campus and make this great new area their own.”
